Tenerife - Monuments Puerto de la Cruz
Puerto de la Cruz is certainly the most rich and interesting city to visit, from a historical and cultural point of view. In fact, although it is a tourist town, the atmosphere is much more quiet and calm than many other cities of the Island. The main buildings of historical interest are located near the beautiful Plaza Charco.
• Casa de la Aduana and Casa Miranda - La Casa de la Aduana, the old customs house of 1620, now tourist office of the town. Nearby you can admire the pretty Miranda House, symbol of the architecture of the eighteenth century.
• Church of San Francisco - This beautiful church, which stands not far from the famous Plaza Charco, was part of the Hermitage de San Juan, a small building dated 1599 (the oldest in the city).
• Church of Nuestra Señora de la Peña de France - This is a beautiful church whose particular interiors go back to the '600. To note the beautiful wooden Mudejar ceilings reproducing the Gran Poder de Dios, among the Saints more beloved of Puerto de la Cruz.
• Casa de Torreon Ilarte de Ventosa - Unfortunately the historic buildings of the city are not all well kept. For example of the eighteenth century Casa Ilarte, was once a place of political gatherings, now in ruins. The Torreon de Ventoso instead, a tower that was used to control the harbour, is among the best preserved buildings.
• Castillo de San Felipe - Just outside the historical centre, not far from Mirador de la Paz, you’ll find this beautiful building of the XVII century that in the years assisted various changes.
