The transport network in the Canaries allows everybody to go across the island and to move from one isle to another.
Taxis, cars rental, buses, ferries, planes and ... camels!
Discovering an island has never been that easy.
The Canary Islands offer to the tourists several interesting opportunities to move easily according to their needs.
Public transport is very efficient, whether you want to move from one location to another within the same island, or you want to venture in a route that goes through the archipelago.
Getting around the island:
● Taxi is certainly the fastest and the easiest way to go anywhere without getting lost and wasting time. Just find one with the free neon sign or call the taxi operator. The starting price is 2.5 euros.
● Bus (or Guagua) is the most frequently used by both tourists and residents, because it’s the cheapest. Guagua (ie local buses) leads to the most important touristic centers of the islands. The ticket price range from 0.80 to 5 euros, depending on the run and it’s possible to buy them straight on board. Subscription are also available, they are cheaper (half price) and designed for who want to do more trips.
● Car rental: is the most expensive way but allows to move freely. The car rental service is almost provided by all the hotels, at airports and in the main touristic areas, the price differs depending on the car you choose. To hire you need to hold The European driving license or international driving license, whether you belong to the European community or not.
● Cycling: represents the most individual and the cheaper way to visit the isle. Everything it’s up to your pace and desires: the cycle tracks are everywhere and a cycle rental’s average price is between 8 and 14 euros, affordable price packages are also possible
● Camel: surely the most original choice. This medium allows to experience something unique, its price is reasonable, even if it can be different in each area.
Moving around the islands:
● Ferry: is the most used and economic transport to move from one island to another. The departures are fairly frequent and usually on time, and its duration it’s different according to the path you choose: a route from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote last approximately from 30 minutes to 1 hour, and the amount is about 20 euros. The ferries allow cars boarding, another chance to enjoy your holiday in absolute freedom.
● Airplane: is the fastest and also the most expensive way of travelling. The islands are well organized and the major airports (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, La Palma and La Gomera) offer regular flights that link the islands one to each other and also Spain and abroad. The major airlines involved are Air Europe, Spanair and Iberia. |
