UNESCO has declared the island of Fuerteventura new Biosphere Reserve.
With the most extensive marine area between Spanish, the island will double the extension of reservations in Spain.
The rationale for this choice is as follows: presence of specific characteristics of a geological and biological heritage, consisting of a marked dry land and a rich and diverse marine environment.
Currently the Spanish territories that fall within the Biosphere Reserves are 40, about 551 worldwide.
A transition process is taking to move towards Fuerteventura tourism qualified, with the goal of preserving the environment and the whole planning of the territory.
The island of Fuerteventura is a true natural treasure, which includes "places of community interest and special protection areas for birds.
